Historically informed practice
An increasingly broad topic in music, and one which is gaining in importance, is historically informed performance practice and the array of instruments associated with it. Since only a very few specimens from the 16th to 19th centuries have remained unaltered, the new construction of reproductions, as well as the conversion of historical stringed instruments to their original state along with appropriate tonal adjustment are of particular significance.
Johannes Loescher
The required expertise in this field is characterized by a knowledge of musicology, and is far more complex than a conventionally trained violin maker might suspect. In our workshop collective, Johannes Loescher – as a violin maker, restorer, musicologist, and musician – is responsible for this area of specialty, and has long enjoyed international recognition in this field. He regularly gives guest lectures on this subject, writes specialist articles, and lectures on early music.
